Fenceline Handbook

Fact-checking and corrections

How we check our guides, and what happens when we get something wrong.

Before publishing

Every guide is checked against a list before it goes live:

  1. Each legal or planning statement is traced to legislation or official guidance, and the link is recorded.
  2. Thresholds, such as the 2 m and 1 m fence height limits, are checked against the current wording, not memory.
  3. Differences for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are confirmed, or the guide clearly says the reader must check locally.
  4. Technical terms, such as UC3 and UC4, are checked against the relevant standard or industry guidance.
  5. Prices are labelled approximate and dated.
  6. Safety warnings are included where a job carries real risk, such as digging near services or working on fences in high wind.

When updating

When rules change or a guide is reviewed, we recheck the sections affected and change the updated date shown on the page. Routine reviews happen at least once a year.

Reporting an error

If you think something is wrong, please email us via the contact page. Tell us the page, the statement and, if you can, the official source that shows the correct position.

How we correct

We check every report. If we agree, we correct the guide promptly. Minor fixes, such as typos or broken links, are made without notice. Corrections to facts or rules are reflected in the updated date, and where a change materially alters advice we note it in the text.
